Windows 11 Task Manager Bug: How to Fix It

Redazione RHC : 31 October 2025 08:23

Microsoft’s Windows 11 updates often contain unexplained bugs, especially patches for new features, such as the recently released KB5067036 . While KB5067036 is an optional update, it introduced a completely new Start menu and updates to the taskbar and File Explorer , making it highly anticipated.

However, a bug was found in Task Manager.

The bug is that when a user closes the Task Manager window as usual, the program is not actually closed and remains in the background.

If the program is reopened, it will be regenerated. During the test, a maximum of 100 background processes were generated.

Since it also consumes memory and CPU resources, this bug can slow down your system and even cause computers to freeze.

How to fix this bug?

There are solutions on the Reddit forum, where the problem has been reported. One solution is to use the “End Process” function in Task Manager to end processes running in the background. Simply end each background process.

If you have multiple windows open, the previous steps may be a bit cumbersome. In that case, you can try the command line: open CMD and type the following command:

taskkill /im taskmgr.exe /f

This command can simultaneously terminate all background programs in Task Manager, bringing peace and tranquility to the world.

Of course, the final solution is still up to Microsoft. This patch is still a preview, and the final version will be released within two weeks. Microsoft should have time to fix the problem. Don’t worry if you haven’t updated yet: there may be other undiscovered bugs. There’s no rush to try out the new Start menu.
