Apple has issued a stern warning: stop using Google Chrome. The world’s most popular browser is competing with both desktops and smartphones, gradually taking market share from Apple. But the company has decided not to back down and is responding with a direct attack.
“Switch to a browser that truly protects your privacy,” Apple says in its announcement.
According to the company, Safari offers advanced protection against cross-site tracking, hides your IP address from known trackers, and much more. Unlike Chrome, Safari, Apple emphasizes, actually helps preserve your privacy.
Microsoft is using a similar tactic, warning Windows users about the dangers of Chrome and promoting its Edge browser. But while Edge has failed to take over, Safari, the default browser on iPhones, is in a completely different league .
Apple even published a feature comparison table: tracker blocking, protection from malicious extensions, and IP hiding. In each row, only Safari is selected, while Chrome, according to Apple, offers none of these features.
The list, however, doesn’t mention device fingerprinting, the covert tracking technology Google reintroduced this year, despite its previous ban . This tracking is impossible to disable: it collects numerous technical characteristics and creates a unique user profile.
However, Apple claims to have found a way to partially counteract this method. The new Advanced Protection from Tracking and Fingerprinting mode, previously available only in Private Browsing, is now enabled by default for all users in iOS 26. This mode clogs the authentication system with unnecessary data, making it extremely difficult for the browser to identify the device’s true settings.
In other words, Safari even has built-in fingerprint protection, while Chrome on iPhone doesn’t offer such protection. Apple makes it clear: your browser choice directly determines your level of online security.
