Bus becomes travelling museum of retro computers in UK

Redazione RHC : 16 October 2025 19:06

In the UK, father and son Jason and Luke Stoner have transformed an old school bus into a traveling museum dedicated to retro computers and game consoles. The inspiration came when Luke visited the famous Computer Museum in Cambridge, deciding to make vintage technology accessible to a wider audience.

Thus was born Retro Reset, a nonprofit organization that began the complete restoration of the vehicle in autumn 2024. The project was completed in just a year, with the Cambridge Museum among the initiative’s main sponsors.

The bus currently travels across East Sussex, stopping at schools, colleges and youth centres, aiming to introduce children and teenagers to the history of computing.

Inside, the spaces house not only consoles from various eras, but also a vast array of computer components: old servers, memory modules, video cards, hard drives, floppy disks, and other devices that allow us to observe the evolution of PCs over time.

The exhibition, compact due to the size of the vehicle, features approximately ten simultaneously active systems, updated periodically.

Among the most valuable exhibits is a computer once used to edit Hollywood films . Visitors have the opportunity to interact directly with consoles, disassemble PCs, and study individual components, participating in hands-on engineering activities.

Retro Reset isn’t just about exhibiting historical objects: it’s an interactive platform that allows you to experience the history of the digital world firsthand. The initiative could inspire new similar projects, spreading a passion for retro computers and keeping technological memory alive for future generations.

We leave you with the words of the initiative:

Our mission is to bring the fascinating history of computers and video games to life for young people. Our mobile labs, housed in a beautifully restored bus, offer a hands-on journey into the world of retro technology, exploring the evolution of gaming and computing from the 1970s to today. What makes us unique? Not only do we offer the opportunity to play with classic consoles and explore vintage gadgets, but we also give young people the chance to handle, disassemble, and experiment with vintage technology up close. From retro computers to iconic game consoles, kids will fully understand how these machines work and how they helped shape the digital world we know today.
