The city of Karamay, Xinjiang, hosted the opening of the finals and exhibition of the first AI Applications Competition. The event, held at the Museum of Science and Technology, saw twenty-four projects compete for the final prizes in nine key areas, from healthcare to industrial energy to education. The event also included an exhibition of results, the signing of agreements, and an awards ceremony, aiming to highlight the role of AI in local development and the construction of a “city of computational power.”
The competition, titled “Walking with Digitalization, Empowering Development,” was organized by the Karamay Municipal Party Committee and Administration, together with digital innovation and development organizations. More than 300 participants, including experts, academics, and industry representatives, took part in the competition. In his speech, Shi Gang emphasized the city’s transformation from a resource-based center to an innovation hub, with artificial intelligence as the driving force.
During the ceremony, Wusuer Salamu, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, highlighted how artificial intelligence is experiencing a phase of profound integration. In particular, large-scale models These dimensions have been described as the transition from simple tools to true intelligent agents, in line with Karamay’s strategy of building a new city of computing power.
The competition, launched in May, received 495 projects submitted by 286 organizations, in sectors ranging from energy to agriculture, from healthcare to urban management. After a careful selection process, 24 projects were admitted to the finals. The judging focused on technological innovation, practical application, and leadership potential, with a format that included presentations, demonstrations, and live discussions.
In the final competition, first prize was awarded to a project dedicated to a data-driven intelligent optimization platform for fracturing and its practical application in the field. Second prize went to an AIGC system and an intelligent agent for healthcare services. Third prize went to an AI assistant for government services, a drilling control model, and a weather forecasting system. Twelve projects received awards of excellence.
In addition to the race, during Six key project agreements in various sectors were signed at the event. The selected innovations will be accelerated for implementation and transformation in Karamay, in line with the city’s strategy to develop new productivity and strengthen its technological competitiveness.
The competition served as a showcase for high-level talent, technologies, and projects, strengthening Karamay’s role as an emerging center in Xinjiang’s digital economy. The event demonstrated the potential of artificial intelligence to fuel high-quality economic growth and provide new impetus to regional development.
