Cyberattacks skyrocket in Europe! Every three minutes, a company is hit.

With the rapid growth of digital threats, businesses around the world are under cyberattack. According to the latest data from Check Point Research, each organization experiences an average of 1,984 attempted attacks per week, a 143% increase from four years ago. In the second quarter of 2025, attack volumes increased 21% compared to the same period the previous year, 58% compared to 2023, and nearly 2.5 times compared to 2021.

Attackers are particularly active in attacks on educational institutions. On average, 4,388 attacks are recorded in this sector every week, a 31% increase compared to last year. As the Check Point team points out, these organizations often suffer from a chronic lack of funding for security systems and, at the same time, have a high volume of personal data of students and teachers, making them a tempting target.

Governments also remain at risk, with an average of 2,632 attacks per week, as they store critical information that can be used to gain political influence. The telecommunications sector, which attracts attention for its role in providing national infrastructure and storing subscriber data, is at a similar level, with 2,612 attacks per week.

Based on data collected from more than 150,000 networks and millions of endpoints, Europe saw the largest increase in attacks, up 22% year-over-year. North America is in second place with 20%. In absolute terms, European companies suffer an average of 1,669 attacks per week, but the growth rate suggests that hackers are actively exploiting regional tensions, legislative discrepancies, and a high concentration of valuable data.

However, Africa records the highest number of attacks, with 3,365 per week, followed by Asia-Pacific with 2,874. Despite the lower intensity in terms of the number of attacks, North American companies are the most frequently targeted by the most destructive ransomware attacks, accounting for 53% of all recorded incidents. Europe accounts for a quarter of cases, while Asia accounts for 11%.

Financially motivated criminal groups most frequently target companies in the business services (10.7% of all ransomware attacks), manufacturing (9.8%), construction and engineering (9.5%), healthcare (7.8%), and consumer goods and services (7.6%) sectors.

Check Point analysts emphasize that the pressure isn’t expected to ease. To address the new level of threats, organizations must build proactive defenses, not just react to attacks, with multi-layered systems and constant monitoring.
