Darkcloux 3.0 is here: Securonis Linux becomes more secure (and more extreme) than ever

Redazione RHC : 22 June 2025 23:07

Securonis Linux has released its most significant update: version 3.0 of “Darkcloux” and the 3.0-r1 patch. The release includes new utilities, redesigned components, and improvements to privacy and security.

The main change is the end of support for the GNOME environment. From this release, only MATE remains in the distribution.

The FireScorpion browser is integrated into the system: a modified version of Firefox with improved privacy settings, ad and tracker blocking. The following utilities have also been added:

  • Data Destroyer is a graphical interface for secure data deletion;
  • System Knightmalware and rootkit inspection;
  • ColdBootDef is a tool for cleaning RAM when the system is off;
  • Speedtest is a utility CLI to measure Internet connection.

Many components have been completely rewritten: Nuke2System, Paranoia, PhysicalSec, password manager. Two kernel modes have appeared in the security settings: productive and strictest. Control panel interfaces have been updated and the design theme has been improved.

Removed from the distribution: GNOME, the obsolete Panic Mode (whose functions have been moved to separate tools), as well as Netxtrack, Symonitoring and Netraffic.

Patch 3.0-r1, released on June 17, fixed autoboot issues and sped up ColdBootDef using Seconionis’ Autowipe technology. To check Tor routing, we recommend check.torproject.org.

According to the developer, the build has been tested on AMD and NVIDIA systems and has proven to work stable. It is also specified that AppArmor is only active after installation and not in Live mode. Securonis uses open NVIDIA drivers; for closed ones, support is available via nvidia-driver-guide.

The developer recommends the update as it is the most stable at the moment.
