Kohler enters the digital health market with an unusual product: a toilet-mounted module equipped with a camera and a recognition system that monitors health.
The device, called Dekoda , costs $599; pre-orders are open now, with first shipments expected on October 21, 2025. It is the first development from Kohler Health, a new initiative that aims to integrate accurate medical measurements into everyday life.
The system analyzes the contents of the toilet after each use and interprets the data to assess hydration levels, gastrointestinal function, and the presence of blood. Artificial intelligence algorithms process the data, and the results are sent to a mobile app, where daily reports and summary indicators are generated.
Kohler emphasizes that the device doesn’t replace laboratory tests, but rather helps identify abnormalities that should be reported to a doctor. If the system detects any abnormalities, the user receives a notification.
The device requires no tools for installation: the mount fits the rim of a bowl between 32 and 58 mm wide, leaving at least 6 mm of clearance under the lid. The camera is integrated into the rim and points downwards, capturing only the contents, not the room or the person.
The company specifies using closed optics with a limited viewing angle, preventing unwanted objects from being captured. However, the sensors may provide inaccurate readings on dark ceramics, where light reflects differently.
To ensure privacy, the family and multi-user versions offer fingerprint authentication and separate profiles, allowing each user to control their own data . Information transfer is protected by end-to-end encryption, and the Kohler Health app allows you to set access levels: disable syncing entirely, allow local storage only, or share anonymous statistics.
Power is provided by a rechargeable battery, with an estimated life of about a week. Charging and updates are handled via USB-C. This eliminates the need for cables: a brief connection is enough to charge and install new firmware without having to remove the device from the toilet.
Dekoda is a premium self-monitoring device: in addition to the device itself, it requires a subscription for data analysis, ranging from $70 to $156 per year, depending on the plan chosen. This new device is part of a general trend where health monitoring is gradually becoming part of everyday life, as is the case with smart pet litter boxes. The device’s popularity will depend on users’ willingness to sacrifice convenience and privacy in exchange for regular health reports and timely alerts on potential problems.
Overall, the company hopes the combination of easy setup, flexible privacy settings, and clear analytics will convince users to try this new format for home health monitoring.
