Automaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that it was forced to disable several systems due to a hacker attack. The incident appears to have impacted the automaker’s manufacturing and retail operations.
“JLR has been impacted by a cyber incident. We have taken immediate action to mitigate the impact by preemptively shutting down our systems,” the company said in a statement. “There is currently no evidence of customer data theft, however, our retail and manufacturing operations have suffered significant disruption.”
JLR also said it is currently working on a controlled restart of all global applications. The company did not provide a specific timeline for a return to normality or details about the attack.
The first reports of disruption at JLR came from UK dealers, who complained of being unable to register new cars and supply spare parts to service centers.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the attack occurred over the weekend and the incident forced JLR to disable several systems, including those used at the Solihull manufacturing plant (where the Jaguar Land Rover models are built). Land Rover Discovery, Range Rover, and Range Rover Sport).
According to media reports, workers at the Halewood plant received an email on Monday asking them not to report to work, while other staff members were sent home.
So far, no hacker group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Jaguar Land Rover.
