US-Iran Cyberwar: DHS Raises Alarm, American Networks Under Attack

Redazione RHC : 24 June 2025 22:59

The United States has warned of possible cyber attacks by pro-Iranian groups following a series of airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities, as part of the armed conflict between Iran and Israel that began on June 13, 2025.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that the current situation creates a “elevated threat” in the country’s cyberspace. The department said that hacktivists, as well as groups associated with Iranian government agencies, will most likely focus their attacks on American networks and vulnerable devices connected to the Internet. According to the DHS, such activities have already been recorded: these are low-level attacks aimed at creating interference and temporarily disabling resources.

Officials noted that similar cyber interventions by Iran and its allies are regularly recorded in the United States, especially when they involve poorly protected networks and systems that use standard security protocols without additional layers of protection.

The situation escalated after Donald Trump announced a military operation against Iran. The American president confirmed that the US military carried out air strikes on three key Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. Trump called these actions a “brilliant military success” and warned that even more severe measures would be taken if Tehran did not agree to talks.

The backdrop to the military conflict was a full-blown cyber war between Iran and Israel. According to industry analysts, both sides are coordinating attacks not only against enemy infrastructure, but also against private companies, government websites and digital platforms.

In this context, the group Team 313, which supports the Iranian side, announced that it managed to temporarily disable the Trump-owned social network Truth Social. The hackers used a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which overloaded the servers and made the platform inaccessible to users.

Experts warn that while the attacks by Iranian-backed groups remain largely demonstrative at this stage, they could become more widespread and destructive as the conflict progresses, hitting critical parts of America’s infrastructure, including energy, transportation and telecommunications systems.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump himself has excitedly announced the agreement reached for a “complete and unprecedented” ceasefire between Israel and Iran. According to him, the agreement came into force on June 24 and is expected to take effect first in Iran and then in Israel. Trump stressed that the parties have shown “restraint, courage and wisdom,” and expressed hope that this step will pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
