President Donald Trump briefly left Maria Bartiromo speechless during an interview when he insinuated that the United States was hacking Chinese systems. The president highlighted the “large trade deficit with China” and said that the country “will pay a lot of tariffs.” However, he claimed to have a “very good relationship” with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
This all came in an interview where US President Donald Trump downplayed the significance of aggressive actions linked to Beijing, including the recent arrests of two Chinese citizens accused of illegally bringing a dangerous pathogen into the United States.
Trump told Fox News regarding cyber aggression that Washington behaves similarly. “We do it, we do a lot of things,” on the program “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo,” which was stunned by his words.
“That’s the way the world works. It’s a shitty world.”
He added: “I think getting along with China is a great thing, but they are paying substantial tariffs.” It’s also true that the White House has signaled progress in trade with China, with one official saying that both sides have reached an understanding on issues such as accelerating rare earth shipments to the United States.
Yunqing Jian, 33, and Zunyong Liu, 34, are charged with conspiracy, smuggling, making false statements, and visa fraud. The U.S. Department of Justice alleged that the two conspired to smuggle a fungus called Fusarium graminearum into the United States, which causes ear canker, a disease that affects wheat, barley, corn, and rice.
Trump downplayed the matter, saying, “We don’t know where it came from, though. I mean, is it from the country, or were these three crazy people just bringing something in?” Referring to the trade war between the United States and China, Trump appeared to express satisfaction, saying, “We’re getting along with China.”
After talks in Geneva in May, Washington and Beijing agreed to temporarily reduce customs duties on their respective products.
