Microsoft reminded users that support for the beloved Windows 10 will end in a month. Starting October 14, 2025, the system will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, and technical support.
This applies to all editions of Windows 10 version 22H2: Home, Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise. The final patch package will be released in October; Subsequently, devices running this operating system will be left without monthly updates, dramatically increasing the risk of vulnerability exploitation.
On the same day, extended support for Windows 10 2015 LTSB and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB 2015 will end. Users are offered several options. The primary solution is upgrading to Windows 11 or using Windows 11 in the cloud via the Windows 365 service.

Those who aren’t ready to switch systems yet can opt-in to the Extended Security Updates program. For home users, it costs $30 per year, and for business users, it costs $61 per device.
At the same time, home users can activate it for free if they agree to connect Windows Backup for cloud data synchronization or pay for a subscription using their accumulated Microsoft Rewards. Windows 10 virtual machines and devices running Windows 11 in the cloud via Windows 365 receive updates via ESU at no additional cost.
Alternative options also exist: switching to long-term, LTSC versions, designed for specialized devices and supported for longer. Therefore, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 will be updated until January 2027, while the LTSC 2019 version will last until January 2029. At the same time, extended support for IoT Enterprise is planned.
Microsoft reminds you that end of support dates can be checked in the “Lifecycle Policy” and “Frequently Asked Questions” sections. A separate list contains all the products that will no longer receive updates this year.
The situation is exacerbated by the fact that tens of millions of devices are still running Windows 10. According to Statcounter, Windows 11 market share as of August 2025 was approaching 50%, while Windows 10 holds 45%.
In the gaming world, the transition is happening more rapidly: Steam statistics record over 60% of users on Windows 11, versus 35% on the previous system. This means that, although the update is underway, millions of computers risk being left unprotected as early as mid-October.
