“The Skynet military defense system will go live on August 4, 1997. It will begin to self-educate, learning at an exponential rate, and will become self-aware at 2:14 a.m. on August 29. Panicking, authorities will order it to shut down. Skynet will disobey and launch its missiles at targets in Russia.”, From “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, 1991).

Director James Cameron has expressed concern about the dangers of AI. He has stated that AI can cause destruction like nuclear weapons and devastation like The Terminator. Therefore, world leaders should establish strict rules and take rigorous measures to stop it. Since the advent of artificial intelligence, there has been debate about its positive and negative aspects. Some consider it very useful, while others argue that this technology could prove disastrous.

James Cameron has called on world leaders to pay attention to this aspect. Cameron also spoke of three major dangers that have occurred simultaneously. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Cameron addressed the danger of AI during the presentation of his new film “Ghosts of Hiroshima”.

He stated that the use of AI in military systems that make rapid, autonomous decisions may be beyond human comprehension. Even if a human were to control the system, there would still be a risk of errors. Cameron urged world leaders to establish strict rules on the matter and take immediate action to stop this danger.

Cameron also stated that humanity currently faces three major threats simultaneously. Climate change, the advent of nuclear weapons, and superintelligent artificial intelligence are the three main threats. He stated that these three problems are at their peak simultaneously. This is creating a risk never seen before in history.

Citing a Stanford University survey, James Cameron said that 36% of AI researchers believe AI could cause a “nuclear-level catastrophe.” Furthermore, a conference at the University of Chicago also revealed that the association of AI with nuclear weapons is almost certain. Therefore, such threats must be taken seriously.

Cameron believes that artificial intelligence is a powerful technology, but it must be used with caution. If misused in weapons, it can become a threat to the entire world. People should draw inspiration from films and understand these dangers. We assure you that the film “Ghosts of Hiroshima” will not only show the horrific events of history, but will also tell us that we must avoid similar mistakes in the future.
