Starting July 1, 2026, Microsoft 365 and Office 365 subscription prices for business and government customers will increase by 8% to 33% , depending on the plan. This price adjustment will apply to both new contracts and renewals.
For example, the Microsoft 365 Business Basic plan will increase from $6 to $7 per month (a 17% increase), while Microsoft 365 E3, one of the most popular plans among large companies, will increase from $23 to $26 (a 13% increase).
Government subscriptions are also subject to a similar price increase. Note that these prices do not include Microsoft Copilot, the generative AI service, which is billed separately ($30 per user per month).
According to the American company, this price increase is part of a strategy to improve functionality: in one year, over 1,100 new features were added to Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Copilot, and security services. The company therefore emphasizes the need to reflect these investments in its pricing.
This upcoming price increase encourages customers to renew their subscriptions before July 1, 2026, to maintain the previous rates for the duration of the contract . In this regard, Microsoft emphasizes that early renewals generate 20% more revenue than late renewals.
This announcement comes at a time of heightened interest in technology sovereignty.
Microsoft is one of the three major hyperscalers , along with Amazon (AWS) and Google (CGP). Its office suites are widely used by private and public organizations.
Switching vendors represents a technical and organizational challenge. Therefore, by raising prices, Microsoft imposes its choices on a constrained ecosystem. This situation also raises the recurring debate about alternatives to American office suites.
It is precisely to address this situation that the European Union adopted the Data Act. This legislation imposes stricter rules on the portability of cloud services to facilitate the migration of data from one provider to another.
