The Chinese company Zhaoxin presented a new generation of KH-5000 server processors at Expo 2025 in Shanghai. These chips are intended for the domestic market and should significantly strengthen the country’s position in the high-performance server solutions segment.
Like the previous KH-4000 series, the new processors are based on the chiplet architecture and are designed for socket installation. The main difference is a significant increase in processing power. The maximum configuration of the KH-5000 includes up to 96 cores and a cache of up to 384 MB. Frequencies reach 2.0 GHz in base mode and up to 3.0 GHz in turbo mode. A 30% increase in performance is also claimed thanks to the improved microarchitecture. It is not yet specified whether the chip will remain without multithreading support, like the KH-4000.
The input/output interfaces have also been significantly updated. The processors now support 12-channel DDR5 RAM with error correction, as well as 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes and an additional 16 PCIe 4.0 lanes, SATA, and USB. To combine multiple processors in the system, the new ZPI 5.0 bus is used, which allows for the assembly of two- or four-socket configurations. This allows up to 384 cores to be installed on a single board, achieving high throughput with low latency and power consumption.
Visually, the packaging of the KH-5000 processors is reminiscent of AMD’s EPYC series server solutions. Previous Zhaoxin models have already shown similarities to the AMD architecture, and the consumer KX-7000N series uses a heatsink similar to Intel’s 12th Gen solutions.
In addition to the KH-5000, the company also announced the KX-7000N desktop processor. This is an evolution of the KX-7000 series and features a built-in neural core to accelerate AI-related tasks.According to Zhaoxin, a new generation of KX series chips is under development, targeting the AI PC segment. These systems are expected to feature more cores, greater processing power, a more advanced heterogeneous neural processor architecture, and PCIe 5.0 support.
Release dates for the new chips have not yet been disclosed, but Zhaoxin promises to share more information in the coming quarters.
