Commodore Corporation BV was recently acquired by fans and former employees. Now, the new Commodore brand has announced a significant milestone: the first Commodore 64 Ultimate computer in 30 years has surpassed 10,000 units sold.

The company’s official X account posted sales figures and thanked the community for their support . As the published graph shows, sales began in earnest on July 12 of this year.

Since August, the trend has been more consistent but stable. The timeline also shows the release dates of the “Let’s Buy Commodore” video trilogy, which has garnered hundreds of thousands of views (one episode surpassing 400,000). Company management has closely monitored the video campaign’s impact on sales.

Commodore 64 Ultimate / Commodore X Sales Volumes

Within the first week of the new product’s launch, Commodore raised over $2 million. This coincided with the release of the video ” Making History: Signing the Commodore Contract + C64 Ultimate Production Update,” which saw a further increase in sales. It was then that many realized the company was truly on the mend.

Immediately after the 10,000-unit sales milestone, Commodore reminded everyone that there is still time to pre-order the first batch via commodore.net and be among the first buyers this year.

The Commodore 64 Ultimate, based on an FPGA platform and featuring the “world’s first transparent keyboard motherboard,” starts at $299. It was also specified that the Founders Edition will be a one-off.

A replacement hasn’t been announced yet for those who missed it, but a similar model is planned.

Even if you’re not planning on diving into a modern version of the iconic C64, this news is worth welcoming. Commodore is positioning itself as a Founder’s Sandbox, a platform for new computing projects . The company’s roadmap calls for up to 12 major releases over the next four years, which has already piqued the interest of both retro and modern technology enthusiasts.

Sales of the Commodore 64 Ultimate have surpassed 10,000 units , proving that interest in retro computers remains strong and that the revived brand is capable of not only tapping into nostalgia, but also becoming a driving force for new technology designs.

The original Commodore 64 (also known as the C64) was launched in January 1982 and quickly became the most popular home computer of its time. The computer featured an 8-bit MOS Technology 6510/8500 processor running at 1.023 MHz for the NTSC version and 0.985 MHz for the PAL version .

In addition to 64 KB of RAM, 20 KB of read-only memory was available , including a BASIC interpreter . The device also offered hardware support for color graphics and sound. The VIC-II graphics chip supported a resolution of 320×200 pixels, 16 colors, and hardware sprites . The whole thing was rounded out with joystick interfaces, video/audio ports, a ROM cartridge slot, and an IEEE-488 serial port (for disk drives or printers).
