Windows 11 Insider Preview: New features and improvements ahead

Microsoft has released a new build 26200.5761 (KB5064093) of Windows 11 Insider Preview to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. The update introduces several exciting features and improvements that will be gradually rolled out to users.

The main innovation is the ability to seamlessly continue working with Android apps directly on a Windows 11 computer. The first example was integration with Spotify: if the user was listening to a song or podcast on a smartphone, a notification would appear on the PC with the option to continue playing from the same point. If the app isn’t yet installed, the system itself will prompt the user to download it from the Microsoft Store and immediately log in to their account. For the feature to work, you must enable phone linking via Windows Settings and the Link to Windows app.

Another notable change is the lock screen, which now features updated, more visual battery icons that allow you to quickly assess your battery level.

Other improvements include a new way to invoke “Click to Do” on Copilot+ touchscreen devices, simplified “Auto SR” settings on Snapdragon laptops, and additional features in Settings, including direct links to relevant pages from search results and hotkeys for long and short dashes. You can now pin your favorite apps to the Windows Sharing window for quick selection.

Developers have also fixed several bugs. The application list in Settings now works better, issues with Windows Hello when signing in using facial recognition have been resolved, and game stability when using overlays and Game Bar has been improved, especially on systems with multiple monitors. A Visual Studio crash on an Arm64 PC when using WPF after installing a .NET update has been fixed.

Known issues include issues with the Recall feature for users in Europe, an incorrect display of the Share section in File Explorer, and errors when scanning temporary files in system settings. Some users are also experiencing issues using the Xbox controller over Bluetooth, for which the company offers a manual solution via Device Manager.

Microsoft reminds us that many Dev Channel features are released in phases and may change or not be included in final versions of Windows. Program members can accelerate the delivery of new features by enabling the “Get the latest updates” option in Windows Update settings.
